What we do

Single tasks to multi-rack deployments. We work independently, escalate only at decision points, and deliver outcomes — not just hours.

  • Full rack deployments — racking, cabling, power, IPMI
  • Network diagnostics — trace, test, fix, not just report
  • Structured cabling — copper and fibre, labelled and tested
  • Multi-site and long-duration projects (10–30+ hours)
  • OS installs, BIOS updates, device configuration
  • Hardware swaps, diagnostics, and maintenance
  • If it's not listed — just ask

Why teams book us

We don't just follow instructions — we help you get the job done.

Clean work

Labelled, neat and photographed. Work done with understanding, not just neatness — because knowing why matters as much as doing it well.

On-time

Agreed arrival window and proactive updates while travelling.

Prepared

Tools, consumables, and engineering knowledge on hand. We arrive ready to work — and ready to think.

Documented

Post-visit report with photos, engineering observations, and recommendations — not just proof of attendance.

Minimal input required

You don't need to manage us. Give us the brief, and we'll deliver the outcome.

Give us a runbook

You have a process — we follow it precisely. Step-by-step execution, documented and confirmed.

Give us a goal

You describe the outcome — we figure out how to get there. Engineering judgement, not just task execution.

Escalation, not hand-holding

We work independently and escalate only at genuine decision points. You get progress updates — not questions you shouldn't have to answer.

Typical work we take on

These are examples, not limits. If it's infrastructure and it's in Manchester — ask us.

Rack & stack

Full deployments — single servers to multi-rack builds. Racking, cabling, power, IPMI, photos.

Network diagnostics

Port not linking? We trace the cable, test the run, check the patch panel, and find the fault.

Structured cabling

Copper and fibre — termination, patching, panel rebuilds, labelling, testing. No splicing.

Hardware & configuration

Drive swaps, PSU replacements, BIOS updates, OS installs, IPMI/BMC configuration.

Office & workspace projects

Desk provisioning, network drops, tenant moves, decommissions — minimal disruption.

Long-duration & multi-site

Projects spanning 10–30+ hours across multiple visits or sites. Day-rates available.

From quick fixes to full deployments

Whether it's a single cable move or a multi-week project, the approach is the same: efficient, independent execution with minimal client involvement.

70 desks to 40 — under estimate

London MSP needed a Manchester office right-sized. We audited 70 desks, retained the best hardware, deployed 40 standardised workstations to spec, and delivered a future-proofing inventory. ~22 hours of work.

Remote access down — one cable move

An MSP lost remote access to their client's Manchester site after a misconfiguration. We attended as hands and eyes, moved a cable between ports while they fixed it remotely. No travel costs, no hotel, no downtime.

Different scale. Same outcome: efficient, low-friction execution. You don't need different providers for different sizes of job — we adapt to the work.

FAQs

Common questions answered

What areas do you cover?

Smart Hands serves Manchester. Travel is charged at £0.75 per mile. For locations further afield, get in touch and we can discuss.

Do you work outside normal business hours?

Yes. We're available Monday through Sunday by arrangement, including evenings and weekends. This is particularly useful for data centre work that needs to happen during maintenance windows or for urgent issues outside business hours.

How do you handle site access and security?

We're experienced working in secure environments including data centres and corporate offices. We're happy to complete security clearance forms, provide references, and work with your security team. A Non-Disclosure Agreement is standard for all work. Just let us know your site's requirements.

Can you work with our existing IT team?

Absolutely. We can work alongside your team, take direction from remote engineers, or coordinate with third-party vendors. We're comfortable being your on-site hands while you manage remotely, or working collaboratively with your team on-site.

What documentation do you provide?

After each visit, you'll receive a short report with before-and-after photos, a summary of work completed, and any recommendations. Receipts can be provided on request for any invoices. We can also provide RAMS (Risk Assessment & Method Statement) documents if your site requires them.

Do you supply materials and consumables?

Common consumables like cable ties, rack nuts, labels, and basic cabling are usually on hand with a reasonable allowance per work order. For larger quantities or specialist items, we can either order them in for you or you can supply them directly. We'll discuss this during the scoping phase.

Can you handle larger or multi-site projects?

Yes. For larger projects, we can assign additional engineers to support the work. This works well for large racking projects, site moves, multi-site deployments, or time-sensitive work. Multi-site visits are also available. Get in touch to discuss your requirements and we'll provide a quote.
